After the nuclear accident, a large amount of soil and other materials removed through decontamination in Fukushima Prefecture have been stored at an interim storage facility within the prefecture, and by law, they must be finally disposed of outside Fukushima Prefecture by 2045.
政府は、この最終処分の量を減らすため、放射性物質の濃度が低い土については全国の公共工事の盛り土などで再生利用する方針で、7月には福島県での実証事業を除いて全国で初めて総理大臣官邸の敷地内で再生利用しました。
The government has adopted a policy to recycle soil with low concentrations of radioactive substances for use in embankments and other public works throughout the country in order to reduce the amount of final disposal. In July, for the first time nationwide excluding demonstration projects in Fukushima Prefecture, recycled soil was used on the grounds of the Prime Ministers Office.
政府は26日の会議で今後5年程度で取り組むロードマップを示し、再生利用については、9月から霞が関の中央省庁の花壇などで始めたうえで、地方の出先機関などでも検討するとしています。

大熊町の地権者 “責任感もって進めて”
福島県大熊町の土屋繁男さん（76）は、原発事故のあと、30年近く暮らした自宅があった土地を中間貯蔵施設の用地として提供しました。

The selection of the final disposal site is extremely difficult to reach a consensus on, and it is not easy politically either.
From this stage, it is necessary to raise awareness and show efforts or concrete measures to find some kind of compromise with regions willing to accept final disposal.
Regarding the recycling necessary to proceed with final disposal, it is important to clearly and transparently present whether it is scientifically valid, as well as to show the accumulated discussions, including past failures, in the political process.
Especially regarding recycling, since false rumors can easily spread on social media, it is also important to refute incorrect information.

From now until 2030, efforts must be made to raise the overall level of understanding and to work out concrete steps for building consensus.
At the site of the interim storage facility currently in Fukushima Prefecture, there used to be the lives of 2,000 people, and they have feelings about that place that are beyond words.
If this problem is not resolved, the towns of Okuma and Futaba, which have already suffered greatly from the disaster, will have to continue bearing the burden.
