式典は、1945年に日本が降伏文書に署名した9月2日にあわせて、ハワイの真珠湾で開かれ、各国の関係者などおよそ1000人が出席し、降伏文書に調印した当時の重光葵外務大臣の孫の進さんらも参加しました。
The ceremony was held at Pearl Harbor in Hawaii on September 2, the date when Japan signed the instrument of surrender in 1945.
