昔、大坂の池に1匹の蛙がいました。
Once upon a time, there was a frog in a pond in Osaka.

This frog got tired of doing the same job every day, so it quit and moved to the pond next door.

There, other frogs are growing beans.

The frog from Osaka helped with the bean cultivation, but quickly got bored and moved to another pond.

There, other frogs are planting taro.

The Osaka frog also helped, but quickly got bored and stopped doing anything.

The frog from Osaka wondered if there was any interesting place to go, and then decided to visit Kyoto.

The frog from Osaka kept hopping toward Kyoto and arrived at the top of the big mountain between Osaka and Kyoto.

At that moment, a frog came from the direction of Kyoto as well.

When the Osaka frog asked, Kyoto must be an interesting place with all its temples and shrines, right? the Kyoto frog replied, Kyoto isnt interesting at all.

I heard that Osaka is an interesting place, so Im thinking of going there.

Hearing that, the Osaka frog said, Osaka is a really boring place, and the Kyoto frog said, Youre lying to stop me from going to Osaka.

そこで2匹は「山の上から自分の目で景色を見る」と言って、背伸びをして、大坂と京都の景色を見ました。
しかし、大坂も京都もあまり変わらないとわかって、2匹の蛙はがっかりしながら、自分の生まれた所に帰っていきました。
実は、2匹は勢いよく背伸びをして、背中が大きく曲がった状態で景色を見たので、2匹は前を見たつもりが後ろを見ていて、大坂の蛙は大坂を、京都の蛙は京都を見ていました。
それから、大坂の蛙は、生まれ育った大坂の池で頑張って畑の仕事をしているうちに、働くことが楽しくなって、仲間たちと仲良く暮らしました。
