Due to the influence of warm, moist air flowing in from the south, the atmosphere is unstable mainly on the Pacific side from eastern to western Japan, and in the Tokai region, there are localized areas of heavy rain.

There is a risk of extremely heavy rain mainly in the Tokai and Kanto-Koshin regions through the 17th, so please be very careful about landslides and flooding in low-lying areas.

In the hour leading up to 6 a.m., there was heavy rainfall of 34 millimeters in Kihoku Town, Mie Prefecture, and 26 millimeters in Ogaki City, Gifu Prefecture.

The high-pressure system will extend westward through the 17th, causing a continued influx of moist air into eastern and western Japan, and there is a risk of very heavy localized rainfall.

The amount of rainfall expected in the 24 hours until the morning of the 17th is as follows, in areas with heavy rain: 250 millimeters in Shizuoka Prefecture, 150 millimeters in Tokai excluding Shizuoka and Kanto-Koshin, and 100 millimeters in Shikoku.

After that, the rain is expected to continue, with rainfall amounts in the 24 hours leading up to the morning of the 18th predicted to be: 200 millimeters in Shikoku, 150 millimeters in Tokai, and 120 millimeters in Kanto-Koshin.

In the Tokai region, including Shizuoka Prefecture, the ground has become unstable due to the recent rain, so there is a risk that the danger of disasters will increase with further rainfall.

The Japan Meteorological Agency is urging people to be very cautious of landslides, flooding in low-lying areas, and rising river levels, as well as to watch out for lightning, tornadoes, strong gusts of wind, and hail.

On the other hand, due to the influence of warm and humid air, temperatures are expected to rise mainly on the Sea of Japan side, with daytime highs forecasted to reach a scorching 37°C in cities such as Niigata, Kanazawa, and Tottori; 36°C in Aomori, Toyama, Kyoto, and Matsue; and 35°C in Akita, Wajima in Ishikawa Prefecture, Osaka, and Oita.
