Due to the influence of warm and humid air, the atmosphere is extremely unstable, especially on the Pacific side of western and eastern Japan, and very heavy rain is falling in Shikoku and Kinki.

In Shikoku, there is a possibility that a linear rainband will form from around midday to late at night on the 17th, greatly increasing the risk of disasters. Please be alert for landslides, flooding in low-lying areas, and rising or overflowing rivers.

According to the Japan Meteorological Agency, warm and moist air is flowing in around the edge of a high-pressure system extending over Japan, causing extremely unstable atmospheric conditions, especially on the Pacific side of western and eastern Japan.

The developed rain clouds gradually spread over western Japan, and in the one hour up to 8 a.m., there was very heavy rainfall of 51 millimeters in Katsuragawa, Nara Prefecture. In addition, a rain gauge installed by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism in Tosa Town, Kochi Prefecture, observed very heavy rainfall of 50 millimeters.

The extremely unstable atmospheric conditions are expected to continue mainly on the Pacific side, through the evening of the 17th in eastern Japan and through the 18th in western Japan. There is a risk of very heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorms in some areas, which could result in torrential downpours.

In particular, in Tokushima and Kochi prefectures, a linear rainband may form from around noon to late at night on the 17th, causing the risk of disasters to increase rapidly.

The Japan Meteorological Agency is urging people to be on alert for landslides, flooding in low-lying areas, rising and overflowing rivers, and to watch out for severe phenomena such as lightning, tornadoes, strong gusts of wind, and hail.

Temperatures are expected to rise mainly along the Sea of Japan side in western Japan, with some areas predicted to experience extremely hot days. Meanwhile, as the high-pressure system strengthens its presence near Japan, temperatures are expected to climb on the 17th, especially along the Sea of Japan side in western Japan, with some places likely to see extremely hot days.

A heatstroke alert has been issued for Hiroshima, Shimane, Tottori, Fukuoka, Oita, Nagasaki, Kumamoto, and the Yaeyama region of Okinawa, as the risk of heatstroke is expected to become extremely high.
