Special prosecutor investigating allegations against former South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol’s wife announced on the 18th that they are searching the former Unification Church headquarters and other locations in the suburbs of Seoul.

Korean media had previously reported that a former executive of the former Unification Church had given luxury bags and other items to the wife’s side, asking for favors in return.
韓国で政府から独立して捜査を行う特別検察官は18日、ユン・ソンニョル前大統領のキム・ゴニ（金建希）夫人の疑惑をめぐって、ソウル近郊にある旧統一教会＝世界平和統一家庭連合の本部や関連施設を捜索していると明らかにしました。
The special prosecutor, who conducts investigations independently from the government in South Korea, announced on the 18th that searches were being carried out at the headquarters and related facilities of the former Unification Church—the Family Federation for World Peace and Unification—located in the suburbs of Seoul, in connection with suspicions surrounding Kim Keon-hee, wife of former President Yoon Suk-yeol.
捜索の理由は明らかにしていませんが、韓国メディアによりますと、ユン政権だった2022年に旧統一教会の元幹部が別の人物を通じて、高級ブランドのバッグやネックレスをキム氏に贈ったということです。
They have not disclosed the reason for the search, but according to South Korean media, in 2022 under the Yoon administration, a former executive of the former Unification Church gave Kim a luxury brand bag and necklace through another person.
これについて、公職者の配偶者に高額の金品などを贈ることを禁じた法律に違反した疑いで、特別検察官が捜査していると伝えられていました。
It was reported that a special prosecutor was investigating this on suspicion of violating a law that prohibits giving large sums of money or valuables to the spouses of public officials.
旧統一教会側は、見返りとして、カンボジアでの事業に関するODA＝政府開発援助などをめぐって便宜を図ってもらうよう、キム氏側に依頼していたということです。
The former Unification Church reportedly asked Mr. Kim’s side, in return, to arrange favors regarding ODA Official Development Assistance and other matters related to business operations in Cambodia.
韓国メディアは、キム氏をめぐる別の疑惑で情報機関の国家情報院の捜索も行われていると伝えていて、今後、キム氏への捜査が加速する見通しです。
Korean media reports that the National Intelligence Service, the countrys intelligence agency, is also being searched in connection with another allegation involving Mr. Kim, and investigations into Mr. Kim are expected to accelerate in the future.
