On the 20th, it will be sunny across northern to western Japan as a high-pressure system covers the area. In many places, the daytime high is expected to reach 35°C or higher, so please take thorough precautions against heatstroke.

On the other hand, in Hokkaido, the atmospheric conditions are expected to become unstable due to the front, and there is a risk of heavy rain through the morning of the 20th. Caution is needed for rising river levels and possible flooding.

On the 20th, a wide area from northern to western Japan will be covered by high pressure, bringing clear skies and rising temperatures in many places.

The daytime high temperature is expected to reach 37°C in Kumagaya City and Maebashi City in Saitama Prefecture, and Toyooka City in Hyogo Prefecture; 36°C in Yamagata City, Kofu City, Fukui City, Kyoto City, and Kurume City in Fukuoka Prefecture; and 35°C in Niigata City, Osaka City, and Yonago City in Tottori Prefecture, among other places, indicating extremely intense heat. In addition, temperatures of around 33°C are expected in central Tokyo and Nagoya City.

A heatstroke alert has been issued for Yamagata, Ibaraki, Gunma, Saitama, Yamanashi, Niigata, Ishikawa, Kyoto, Hiroshima, Shimane, Kagawa, Ehime, Nagasaki, and Kumamoto prefectures, as the risk of heatstroke is extremely high.

Please make sure to use air conditioning appropriately, stay hydrated and replenish salt, and take frequent breaks when working outdoors to thoroughly prevent heatstroke.

In Hokkaido, it will rain until around noon. Also, as warm and humid air flows toward the front, the atmosphere in Hokkaido is unstable, causing intermittent periods of heavy rain.

There is a possibility of heavy rain of about 30 millimeters per hour in some areas until before noon on the 20th, and depending on the movement of the front and the development of rain clouds, there is a risk of a warning-level heavy rain.

The Japan Meteorological Agency is warning people to be on alert for rising river levels and flooding, and to take extra care against landslides and inundation of low-lying areas.
