Prince Hisahito, the eldest son of Prince and Princess Akishino, will attend the Coming-of-Age Ceremony on the 6th to mark his reaching adulthood.

This is the first coming-of-age ceremony for a male member of the Imperial Family in 40 years, since Prince Akishino.

On the 6th, ceremonies and events for the coming-of-age celebration will continue from morning until night, but the central ceremony is the Kakan-no-Gi, in which Prince Hisahito, in front of Their Majesties the Emperor and Empress and the Crown Prince and Princess Akishino, wears the crown presented to him by the Emperor.

Ceremonies held in the Hall of Spring and Autumn of the Imperial Palace are attended not only by members of the Imperial Family, but also by relatives and the heads of the three branches of government.

His Imperial Highness Prince Hisahito will pay his respects at the Three Palace Sanctuaries, which enshrine the imperial ancestors, and attend the Choken-no-gi ceremony to greet Their Majesties in the Imperial Palace. Later in the evening, he will attend a private celebratory banquet held at a hotel in Tokyo.

Prince Hisahito turned 18 last year and became an adult member of the Imperial family, but since he was preparing for university entrance exams at the time, the coming-of-age ceremony will be held on his birthday this year.

According to the Imperial Household Agency, after completing the coming-of-age ceremony, Prince Hisahito will prioritize his studies while participating in palace events and rituals as much as possible.

The university is on summer break this month. This month, opportunities for you to participate in domestic events are being considered, so from now on, there will be more chances for you to be active as a member of the Imperial Family.

The Imperial Family consists of 16 members: His Majesty the Emperor, the Emperor Emeritus, and the other members of the Imperial Family.

Prince Hisahito, the eldest son of Prince and Princess Akishino, is the youngest member of the Imperial Family. He turned 18 last September and became an adult member of the Imperial Family.

Among the Imperial Family, the generation of children of Their Majesties the Emperor and Empress and of Prince and Princess Akishino consists of three people: Their Majesties’ eldest daughter Princess Aiko, Prince and Princess Akishino’s second daughter Princess Kako, and Prince Hisahito.

Prince Hisahito is second in line to the throne after Crown Prince Akishino, while the third in line is Prince Hitachi, the 89-year-old younger brother of the Emperor Emeritus.
