The European Union EU announced on the 5th that it has imposed a fine of approximately 500 billion yen on the American tech giant Google, stating that the company set up a system that favored its own advertising services and hindered fair competition.
EUの執行機関にあたるヨーロッパ委員会は5日、IT大手のグーグルが、オンライン広告事業で支配的な立場を利用し、EUの競争法に違反したとして29億5000万ユーロ、日本円にしておよそ5000億円の制裁金を科したと発表しました。
The European Commission, which serves as the executive body of the EU, announced on the 5th that it has imposed a fine of 2.95 billion euros, approximately 500 billion yen, on IT giant Google for violating EU competition laws by abusing its dominant position in the online advertising business.
2014年以降、グーグルが複数のサービスを手がけることで自社のサービスがほかの競合他社に比べて有利となる仕組みを設けていたということです。
Since 2014, Google had set up a system in which its own services would have an advantage over other competitors by offering multiple services.
EUのリベラ上級副委員長は声明で「グーグルは支配的な地位を利用して広告主や消費者に損失を与えた。

アメリカのトランプ大統領はEUによるアメリカのIT企業に対する規制について繰り返し批判していて、今回のEUの決定についてSNSで「非常に不公平だ」とした上で対抗措置をとることも示唆しました。

EU関係者によりますと、今回の決定を巡ってはアメリカとの関税交渉に影響を与えるおそれがあるとしてEUの貿易担当の委員から反対の意見が出ていたということで、アメリカとEUの新たな対立の要因になる可能性もありそうです。
