Prince Hisahito, the eldest son of Prince and Princess Akishino, completed his coming-of-age ceremony on the 6th.

Ceremonies related to the coming-of-age celebration will continue, and on the 7th, Prince Hisahito will travel to Mie Prefecture to visit the Ise Grand Shrine.

Prince Hisahito attended the coming-of-age ceremony for male members of the Imperial Family on the 6th, the first such ceremony in 40 years.

At the Imperial Palace, during the central enthronement ceremony, with Their Majesties the Emperor and Empress and Prince and Princess Akishino watching over, a close aide of the Imperial Family placed a crown on Prince Hisahitos head.

Prince Hisahito stepped forward before Their Majesties the Emperor and Empress and the Crown Prince and Princess Akishino, and expressed his gratitude and determination, saying, I will strive to fulfill my duties with an awareness of my responsibilities as an adult member of the Imperial Family.

The four coming-of-age ceremonies were completed in six days, and in the evening, a private banquet celebrating Prince Hisahitos coming of age was held at a hotel in Tokyo, hosted by Prince and Princess Akishino. Their Majesties the Emperor and Empress, the Emperor Emeritus and Empress Emerita, other members of the imperial family, as well as relatives, attended the event.

At the banquet, silver or porcelain candy containers called bonbonnières were distributed as commemorative gifts.

On the surface, the family crest of the Akishino family, Hisahito-samas personal emblem, the Takano-maki, and dragonflies, which have been subjects of his research, are featured.

The ceremonies associated with the coming-of-age celebration will continue until the 10th of this month, and Prince Hisahito will enter Mie Prefecture on the 7th to visit Ise Shrine.

In addition, a visit to the Imperial Mausoleum and a celebratory luncheon are also planned.
