Due to the influence of the autumn rain front and other factors, rain clouds developed over Kyushu and the Chugoku region. In Nagasaki and Kumamoto prefectures, a linear rainband formed before dawn, and extremely heavy rain was observed.

In Nagasaki and Kumamoto Prefectures, a linear rainband may form in the next few hours, and in Shimane and Tottori Prefectures, it may form from now until evening, sharply increasing the risk of disasters. Strict caution is required.

According to the Japan Meteorological Agency, moist air is flowing toward the stationary autumn rain front, making the atmosphere extremely unstable and causing rain clouds to develop in areas such as Kyushu and the Chugoku region.

A linear rainband has formed in the southern part of Nagasaki Prefecture and the Amakusa/Ashikita regions of Kumamoto Prefecture, causing extremely heavy rain to continue falling in the same areas. As a result, significant heavy rain information has been issued.

In the one hour up to 6 a.m., an extremely heavy rainfall of 122 millimeters was observed by a rain gauge installed by Kumamoto Prefecture in Reihoku Town.

Due to the recent rain, the risk of landslides has become extremely high in Nagasaki and Kumamoto prefectures, and landslide warning information has been issued for certain areas.

The outlook: As the front slowly moves southward, atmospheric conditions will become unstable, mainly on the Sea of Japan side but also on the Pacific side. From northern to western Japan, heavy rain accompanied by thunder is expected, and there is a risk of extremely heavy localized rainfall.

The Japan Meteorological Agency is urging people to be extremely cautious of landslides, as well as to watch out for flooding in low-lying areas and rising or overflowing rivers.
