On the 12th, the atmosphere will remain extremely unstable in both eastern and western Japan, and especially in the Tokai region, there is a risk of very heavy localized rainfall.

Be very careful about flooding of low-lying areas and underground facilities, as well as rising and overflowing rivers, and also be cautious of severe gusts such as lightning and tornadoes.

Due to the warm, moist air flowing toward the autumn rain front and the influence of cold air aloft, record-breaking heavy rain fell mainly in Tokyo and Kanagawa Prefecture on the 11th, causing a series of river floods and inundation damage.

The hourly rainfall was 134 millimeters, observed by a rain gauge installed by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government in Midorigaoka, Meguro Ward, and an intense rainfall of 100 millimeters was observed by a rain gauge installed by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism in Kawasaki City, Kanagawa Prefecture.

In Tokyo, due to this rain, flooding has been confirmed in the Yazawa River in Setagaya Ward and the Takaikawa River in Shinagawa Ward.

Even at night, there were localized heavy rains. According to radar analysis, about 100 millimeters of torrential rain fell in one hour until 10:50 p.m. on the 11th near Naka Ward, Yokohama City, and about 90 millimeters fell in one hour until 10:30 p.m. on the 11th near Takahashi City, Okayama Prefecture. Record-breaking short-term heavy rain information was issued.

The very unstable atmospheric conditions are expected to continue on the 12th as well.

Due to the influence of warm, moist air flowing toward the front and cold air aloft, rain clouds are expected to develop locally, mainly in eastern and western Japan.

In eastern and western Japan, there will be heavy rain accompanied by thunder, and especially in the Tokai region, there is a risk of very heavy rain of over 50 millimeters per hour in some areas.

The amount of rainfall expected in the 24 hours until the morning of the 13th is up to 200 millimeters in Tokai, 100 millimeters in Chugoku, 80 millimeters in Kinki, and 60 millimeters in Kanto-Koshin.

Please be very careful about flooding of low-lying areas and underground facilities, rising and overflowing rivers, and landslides. Also, be aware of severe gusts such as lightning, tornadoes, and hail.
