In Tsukuba City, Ibaraki Prefecture, on the afternoon of the 18th, there have been a series of incidents believed to be caused by gusty winds, such as construction fences set up around buildings and apartment complexes collapsing.

At around 3 p.m. on the 18th, a nearby resident reported that a two-story building has collapsed in Hanamuro, Tsukuba City, Ibaraki Prefecture.

The building has collapsed from the first floor, and according to the police and fire department, there have been no reports of injuries so far.

According to the Mito Local Meteorological Observatory, it appears that cumulonimbus clouds were over Tsukuba City at the time, and there is a possibility of a gust of wind.

A man who was in the building next to the collapsed one said, Along with the rain, the wind suddenly picked up, and most of the banners we had placed outside the store were almost blown away.

When I went outside, I was surprised to see that the building was tilted.

Around 5 p.m., footage taken from above by an NHK helicopter shows the first floor of a two-story building collapsed and leaning heavily, with cardboard boxes and materials scattered around.

Also, the external stairs of the building had collapsed and become deformed.

There were police cars and fire trucks parked near the building, and police officers were checking the surrounding area.

As far as I can tell from the footage, aside from the damaged building, there doesnt appear to be any major damage.

According to the woman in her 50s who took the photo, the enclosure collapsed due to temporary strong winds and heavy rain. The collapsed enclosure fell over onto the sidewalk, and some board-like pieces were blown as far as about 30 meters away.

Its not raining right now, and the person in charge at the construction site is cleaning up, they said.

In footage taken from above by an NHK helicopter just after 4:50 p.m. in Tsukuba City, Ibaraki Prefecture, it appears that the scaffolding surrounding a high-rise apartment building under construction, which is over ten stories tall, has collapsed from the first floor and is seen covering the surrounding trees.

Within a few minutes after the rain starts, it turns into a driving rain, making it difficult to see even the houses a few doors down.

The sound, which appears to be thunder, is also intermittently rumbling.

The man who took the photo said, The mountains, which are usually clearly visible, were suddenly completely covered by clouds, and I felt that the wind started blowing from various directions.

I was surprised when it started raining and then suddenly turned into a downpour, like someone had dumped out a bucket.

It felt like the temperature suddenly dropped, they said.

According to the kindergarten, the wind suddenly picked up around 2 p.m. on the 18th, causing a lot of dust to blow up in the playground.

At that time, there were about 100 children in the kindergarten, and because the wind caused the windows to start shaking, the children were moved away from the windows.

Director Wataru Kikuchi of Izumi Sakai Nursery School said, Suddenly, the building and windows started shaking violently, and as the rain began to lash sideways, I felt it was dangerous and moved the children away from the windows.

I was very scared, but Im glad the children are safe, they said.

According to the Japan Meteorological Agency, due to the influence of a weather front and moist air, developed rain clouds repeatedly passed over Ibaraki Prefecture from around midday to evening on the 18th, and numerous lightning strikes were also observed.
