29 years since the Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake: Pray for those who died
1995年1月17日、阪神・淡路大震災が起こりました
On January 17, 1995, the Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake occurred.
6,434 people died due to buildings collapsing and fires caused by the earthquake.
It’s been 29 years since then.
兵庫県神戸市の公園では、地震が起こった午前5時46分にみんなで静かに祈りました
In a park in Kobe City, Hyogo Prefecture, everyone prayed quietly at 5:46 a.m., the day the earthquake struck.
今年はろうそくを「ともに」ということばの形に並べて、火をつけました
This year, we arranged the candles in the shape of the word ”Together” and lit them.
「ともに」は「一緒に」という意味です
”Tomo” means ”together”
On the 1st of this month, the Noto Peninsula earthquake occurred.
It expresses the feeling of thinking about the victims and working together to help them.
公園に来た男性は「29年前も電気が止まって大変でした
A man who came to the park said, ``29 years ago, the electricity went out and it was very difficult.
It hurts my heart to hear the stories of those who were affected.”
Another woman said, ``It’s cold, so I want those who are evacuated to take care of themselves.’’
