JR東海は新幹線の座席の清掃に使う、いわゆる「魔法のホウキ」を撤廃し、サーモグラフィで座席が濡れているかどうか判断できるシステムに切り替えると発表しました。　
JR Tokai announced it would abolish the so-called "magic broom" used to clean Shinkansen seats and switch to a system that can determine if the seat is wet by measuring heat.
これまで東海道新幹線などの清掃には、座席の濡れを感知するとブザーが鳴る「魔法のホウキ」が使われてきました。　
Until now, "Magic Broom" was an item that makes a noise when the seat is wet, it was used to clean the Tokaido Shinkansen.
しかし、座席を掃くためにかがみ込む必要があり、作業の負担になっていたことから、撤廃することになりました。　
However, it was decided to cancel this type of broom because it had to bend down to sweep the chair and burden the job.
代わりの新しいシステムは、サーモグラフィカメラで座席を撮影すると、スマートフォンの画面と音声で濡れている箇所が通知される仕組みで、直立したまま一列の半分についてまとめて確認できるということです。　
An alternative new system is that when you take a picture of your seat with the temperature camera, you'll be notified of wet areas using your smartphone's display and voice, you can check half of the row of seats while standing upright.
1つの列車あたり2席程度の濡れが確認されるということで、JR東海は新しいシステムで「スタッフの習熟度にかかわらず、迅速かつ正確な点検が可能になる」としています。
Humidity of about 2 seats per train is confirmed, JR Central said the new system will allow for quick and accurate checks regardless of staff qualifications.
