アメリカの首都、ワシントンで桜が見頃を迎え、恒例の「全米桜祭り」が開かれています。　
ワシントンのポトマック川沿いには日曜の昼下がり、桜並木を一目見ようと多くの花見客が訪れました。　
ワシントンの桜は1912年に当時の東京市の市長が日米親善の証として、およそ3千本の桜を贈ったことが始まりです。　
開花の時期に合わせて恒例の「全米桜祭り」が4月16日まで開かれ、日本の文化を紹介する様々なイベントも開催されます。　
ワシントンでは今年の冬は記録的な暖冬で、桜を管理する国立公園局によりますと、満開のピークは平年より1週間から10日ほど早いということです。
