透明で細長い体をクネクネと動かし、その瞳は少し眠たそうにも見えます。

東海大学で海洋生物学などを研究する西川淳教授によりますと、この生物は「ハダカゾウクラゲ」と呼ばれるプランクトンの一種で、ゾウの鼻のように見えるのは口だということです。　
According to Professor Atsushi Nishikawa, who studies marine biology at Tokai University, the creature is a type of plankton called a "naked elephant jellyfish" and its mouth resembles an elephant's trunk.
しかし、「クラゲ」は名ばかりで巻貝の仲間に分類され、小さなプランクトンや、それこそクラゲの仲間を食べるそうです。
