天皇皇后両陛下は午前10時半ごろ、日本医学会総会の開会式が行われた東京・千代田区の会場に到着し、関係者の出迎えを受けられました。　
The Emperor and Empress arrived at around 10:30 a.m. at the venue in Chiyoda ward, Tokyo, where the opening ceremony of the Annual Meeting of the Japan Medical Association was held, and were greeted by officials.
式典で天皇陛下は「医療技術革新の更なる進展と基礎科学の一層の発展が望まれます」としたうえで
At the ceremony, the Emperor expressed hope for "further progress in medical technology innovation and further development of basic science,
「倫理的な課題への取り組みも大切なことだと思います」と述べられました。　
"I think it's important to address ethical issues," he said.
「医学・医療に携わる人々が進歩に伴う課題とも誠実に向き合いつつ、人々の健康な生活のために大きな力をなることを期待いたします」　
“I hope that those involved in medicine and medical care will be able to face the challenges that come with progress in good faith and become a major force in helping people lead healthier lives.”
天皇陛下は、さらに新型コロナについて「症状や治療法、感染対策などの研究を鋭意進めてこられた医学関係者の皆さん、患者さんの命を救うために多大な尽力を続けてこられた医療従事者の皆さんに改めて心からの敬意を表します」と述べられました。
About corona virus, the Emperor said “I would like to once again pay my respects to all the medical professionals who have dedicated themselves to researching symptoms, treatments and infection control and saving lives.”
