七夕。七月七日は七夕です。
Tanabata. July 7 is Tanabata.
昔々、天に神様が住んでいました。
A long time ago, a god lived in the sky.
神様には娘がいました。
The god had a daughter.
名前は織姫で、機織りでした。
Her name was Orihime, and she was a weaver.
ある日、神様は言いました。
One day, god said,
「織姫はもう大人だ。結婚した方がいいだろう。」
"Orihime is already an adult. It's better for her to get married."
神様はいい男の人を見つけました。
God found a good man.
名前は彦星です。
His name is Hikoboshi.
天の川の向こうに住んでいる牛飼いです。
A herdsman living on the other side of the Milky Way.
織姫と彦星は結婚しました。
Orihime and Hikoboshi got married.
けれども二人は仕事をせず、遊んでばかりいました。
But both of them didn't work and only played.
神様はとても怒って、織姫を家に連れて帰りました。
God was very angry and brought Orihime home.
織姫は彦星に会いたくて、毎日泣いていました。
Orihime wanted to meet Hikoboshi and cried every day.
神様は二人がかわいそうなので、言いました。
God felt pity for them both and said,
「もしお前達が一生懸命働けば、一年に一度だけ会ってもいい。」
"If both of you work as hard as you can, you may meet for only once a year."
一年に一度、七月七日、七夕の夜に織姫と彦星は天の川で会うのです。
Once a year, on Tanabata night, Orihime and Hikoboshi meet at the Milky Way.
願いは叶うのです。
Their wish is granted.
毎年七月七日、七夕の日、私達は短冊に願いを書きます。
Every year on July 7, the day of Tanabata, we write wishes on narrow strips of paper.
七夕の日、願いは叶うのです。
On Tanabata day, wishes are granted.
