Multiple American media outlets have reported that about 4,000 employees, which is more than 20% of NASAs workforce, have submitted their resignations.

It was in response to the Trump administrations early retirement program aimed at reducing federal employees, and combined with budget cuts, there are concerns about its impact on space development.

Multiple media outlets, including CBS in the United States, reported by the 27th that around 3,870 employees—more than 20% of NASAs approximately 18,000 staff—have submitted their resignations.

It is said that this was in response to the early retirement program, for which the deadline was July 25, aimed at reducing the number of federal government employees under the Trump administration.

Additionally, the Trump administration adopted a policy of thoroughly reducing government spending, and for NASAs budget as well, it proposed a reduction of 24% compared to the previous year in the budget request for the new fiscal year starting in October 2025.

Approximately 360 NASA employees issued a public letter called the Voyager Declaration on the 21st of this month, opposing budget cuts.

The letter states, In the past six months, NASAs mission has been undermined by rapid and unnecessary changes, causing a devastating impact on the workforce.

Due to the resignation of many staff members and budget cuts, there are concerns about the future impact on Americas space development.

Confusion over NASA Administrator Appointment: There has also been turmoil regarding top personnel appointments at NASA.

President Trump announced that businessman Mr. Isaacman, who conducted an extravehicular activity in space aboard a private spacecraft led by Elon Musk, would be appointed as the head of NASA, but later withdrew the decision.

On July 9th, it was announced that Secretary of Transportation Duffy would temporarily serve concurrently, but in reality, the position remains effectively vacant.
