Thailand and Cambodia reached a ceasefire agreement last month over armed clashes in the border area, but both sides continue to accuse each other of attacks even after the ceasefire, so the focus is now on whether they can maintain the agreement going forward.
タイとカンボジアは、先月24日以降、領有権を争う国境地帯で武力衝突を続けてきましたが、ASEAN＝東南アジア諸国連合の議長国、マレーシアなどが仲介し衝突が始まってから4日後に無条件の停戦で合意しました。
Thailand and Cambodia had continued armed clashes in the disputed border area since the 24th of last month, but, with mediation from ASEAN the Association of Southeast Asian Nations chair country Malaysia and others, they reached an agreement for an unconditional ceasefire four days after the clashes began.
合意を受けてタイ側は、1日、日本やアメリカなどおよそ20か国の大使や駐在武官をカンボジアとの国境付近の視察に招き、現場を公開しました。
In response to the agreement, on the 1st, the Thai side invited ambassadors and military attachés from about 20 countries, including Japan and the United States, to inspect the area near the border with Cambodia and opened the site to them.
公開されたのは、砲撃によって多数の死傷者が出たコンビニエンスストアや診療所などで、現場では遺影を持った遺族らが被害の実情を訴えていました。
It was revealed that many casualties occurred at convenience stores and clinics due to shelling, and at the scene, bereaved families holding portraits of the deceased were appealing the reality of the damage.
一方、カンボジア側でも1日までの2日間、軍が各国の大使らを国境地帯に招き、攻撃で被害を受けた寺院や家屋などを公開しました。
On the other hand, on the Cambodian side, for two days up to the 1st, the military invited ambassadors from various countries to the border area and showed them temples and houses that had been damaged in the attacks.
タイとカンボジアは、4日から、マレーシアで国境管理の有方などについて協議することにしていますが、ASEANの当局者によりますと、双方が停戦の合意を維持することで同意した場合、議長国マレーシアが主導しASEAN加盟国からなる停戦監視団が作られる見通しだということです。
Thailand and Cambodia are scheduled to hold talks in Malaysia from the 4th regarding border management and other issues. According to ASEAN officials, if both sides agree to maintain the ceasefire, Malaysia, as the chair country, is expected to lead the formation of a ceasefire monitoring team consisting of ASEAN member states.
ただ、双方は、停戦後も互いに攻撃を受けたなどと非難を繰り返していて、今後、合意を維持できるかが焦点です。
However, both sides continue to accuse each other of attacks even after the ceasefire, and the focus now is on whether they can maintain the agreement going forward.
