G7外相がいしょう “前提ぜんてい条件じょうけんなしにロシアに和平わへい交渉こうしょう参加さんかを強つよく求もとめる”

Regarding the situation in Ukraine, the foreign ministers of the G7 Group of Seven major countries held a telephone meeting on the night of the 24th, strongly urging Russia to participate in peace negotiations sincerely and without preconditions, and agreed to continue close communication and cooperation.

The G7 foreign ministers telephone conference was held for about an hour on the night of the 24th Japan time, to coincide with the anniversary of Ukraines independence from the former Soviet Union. Attending from Japan was Deputy Foreign Minister Namazu, standing in for Foreign Minister Iwaya, who was on an overseas visit, and Ukraines Foreign Minister Sybiha also participated.

In this context, the G7 foreign ministers reaffirmed their solidarity with Ukraine in discussions with Foreign Minister Shibaha, and welcomed the creation of opportunities for a fair and peaceful resolution under the leadership of U.S. President Trump.

On top of that, we strongly urged Russia to participate in peace negotiations sincerely and without preconditions, and agreed to continue close communication and cooperation.

Additionally, as Minister Iwayas message, the Japanese government reiterated the importance of the G7 acting in unity to achieve an early ceasefire and a just and lasting peace, while welcoming the fact that Ukraine is actively involved in a series of efforts led by the United States to bring the invasion to an end.

On the other hand, regarding Canadian Prime Minister Carney’s mention of the possibility of dispatching Canadian troops to Ukraine after a ceasefire as a guarantee of Ukraine’s security, he stated, “Including Prime Minister Carney’s remarks, there are active discussions taking place toward achieving peace. Based on our fundamental view that Russia’s invasion of Ukraine concerns global security, including the Indo-Pacific, our country is actively participating and engaging in these discussions.”
