In response to the road collapse that occurred in Yashio City, Saitama Prefecture, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism has released, for the first time, the results of its annual cavity inspections on national highways.

Last year, 119 cavities with a high risk of collapse were found across the country, and repairs have been completed in almost all of them.
国土交通省は毎年、国が管理する全国の国道で空洞の有無を調査していて、1月に埼玉県八潮市で起きた大規模な道路陥没を受けて、初めて調査結果を公表しました。
The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism conducts annual surveys to check for cavities on national highways managed by the government. Following a major road collapse in Yashio City, Saitama Prefecture in January, the ministry has published the survey results for the first time.
それによりますと、昨年度調査対象とした3000キロ余りの国道では、空洞が4739か所でみつかったということです。
According to that, more than 4,739 cavities were found along the over 3,000 kilometers of national highways surveyed last year.
このうち、路面からの深さが20センチ未満の空洞など、陥没の可能性が高いと判定したのが119か所で、1か所を除いてすでに修繕を終えました。
Of these, 119 locations were determined to have a high risk of collapse, such as cavities less than 20 centimeters deep from the road surface, and repairs have already been completed at all but one location.
深さや広がりから陥没の可能性が中程度と判定したのが2076か所で、このうち交通量が多い場所など修繕の優先度が高いとしたのが207か所ありますが、対策を終えたのは45か所で2割ほどにとどまっています。
Of the 2,076 locations where the depth and extent were judged to indicate a moderate risk of subsidence, 207 were identified as high priority for repairs due to factors such as heavy traffic. However, only 45 locations, or about 20%, have been addressed so far.
国土交通省は「優先度の高い場所から順次、対策を講じていて、残る場所もできるだけ早期に修繕を完了させたい」とコメントしています。
The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism commented, We are taking measures in order of priority, and we would like to complete repairs at the remaining locations as soon as possible.
