On the afternoon of the 14th, on the Tokushima Expressway in Ichiba Town, Awa City, Tokushima Prefecture, a highway bus and a medium-sized truck collided head-on and caught fire. As a result, one bus passenger and the truck driver died, and a total of 12 people, including the bus driver and passengers, sustained serious or minor injuries.

According to the police investigation so far, it has been found that the scene was a section of road with one lane in each direction, separated by poles, and that more than half of the trucks body was protruding into the oncoming lane.

Subsequent police investigations revealed, based on interviews with sources involved in the investigation, that a pole dividing the lanes was broken just before the scene, and it appears that the truck knocked down the pole and veered into the oncoming lane immediately before the accident.

The vehicle involved in the accident was moved to a police facility on the night of the 14th, and the Tokushima Expressway, which had been closed to traffic in the area around the scene, was reopened about 15 hours later at 3:45 a.m.

The police are investigating the detailed cause of the accident by collecting footage from the dashcams of cars that were driving in the area at the time.
