On the morning of the 13th, a bear broke a window and entered a nursing home in Minamiaizu Town, Fukushima Prefecture.

There were no injuries to users or staff, but the bear escaped and the police are urging caution.

According to the police, shortly after 6:30 a.m. on the 13th, a male staff member at a nursing facility in Tabe, Minamiaizu Town, Fukushima Prefecture, spotted a bear about one meter long outside the window.

The bear reportedly broke the window and entered the building immediately afterward.

The staff escaped into a nearby room, and six users were also unharmed as the staff called out for them to lock the doors to their rooms.

When the police arrived after receiving the report, the bear was already gone, and it is believed that it broke the glass of the front door and escaped outside.

Police are urging people in the area to be cautious of bears, and the town has taken measures such as setting off fireworks and placing traps in the forest behind the facility and in a nearby river.

In Fukushima Prefecture, bear sightings have been occurring at a record pace, and on the 11th, the prefectural government issued a Black Bear Sighting Warning for the Nakadori and Aizu regions.

Male staff member: It was a close call. According to a male staff member in his 40s who spotted the bear at the facility, he noticed the bear outside the window while he was preparing breakfast for the residents in the facilitys hall.

Right after the bear broke in, shattered glass was scattered around and fur was left behind. In the afternoon, local contractors were repairing the facility by covering the broken windows with plywood.

The male staff member said, I was surprised because when I thought I saw a black object, it turned out to be a bear.

He said, I shouted loudly to the users to stay in the room, and since no one was injured, it was really a close call.
