A research team from a domestic academic society has compiled a survey report stating that about 8% of children in junior high school or younger, out of every 10,000, have experienced so-called fragrance pollution, in which artificial scents from daily necessities cause them to feel unwell.
This survey was conducted by a team of researchers from the Japanese Society of Clinical Environmental Medicine and the Society of Indoor Environment, aiming to investigate the effects of artificial fragrances from household products such as fabric softeners and synthetic detergents on children. They asked the guardians of approximately 10,000 children of junior high school age or younger living in nine prefectures.
8。In the survey, when asked whether they had ever experienced health problems caused by artificial fragrances, known as scent harassment, 8% of all respondents answered yes.

Furthermore, when asked where they had experienced it, the most common answer was at daycare or school, and there were also cases where children were reluctant to go to daycare or school because of the smell.

Associate Professor Masato Nagayoshi of Niigata College of Nursing, who is conducting the survey, said, It has become clear that there are children who are actually suffering.
