In 1995, an incident in which three people, including a female high school student working part-time, were shot and killed with a handgun at a supermarket in Hachioji, Tokyo, has remained unsolved for 30 years as of this year.

On the 21st, at the high school alma maters cultural festival, classmates from that time held an exhibition calling for the eradication of guns and to prevent the incident from being forgotten.

On July 30, 1995, in the office of the Nampei supermarket in Hachioji, Tokyo, three people—high school students Megumi Yabuki 17 and Hiromi Maeda 16, who were working part-time, and employee Noriko Inagaki 47—were shot and killed by an unknown assailant.

The Metropolitan Police Department is continuing its investigation on suspicion of robbery and murder, but the perpetrator has not been identified and the case remains unsolved for 30 years as of this year.

At Obirin High School in Machida, Tokyo, the alma mater of one of the victims, Ms. Yabuki, former classmates held an exhibition on the 21st during the school festival, calling for the eradication of guns and to prevent the incident from being forgotten.

In this exhibition, a chronological table summarizing the progress of the investigation so far, newspaper articles, and a picture of a white lily painted by an art teacher at the time in memory of Ms. Yabuki were displayed.

Also, the results of a survey on gun crimes conducted among current students this July were presented, showing that 61% of the 671 respondents answered that they feel anxious about themselves or people around them becoming victims of gun violence.

Mr. Takahisa Ito, who was Mr. Yabukis grade head teacher at the time and is a former teacher involved in this exhibition, said, Thirty years have passed, and I feel that memories of the incident are fading.

He said, Through this exhibition and others like it, I want people to feel the tragedy of incidents involving guns and the preciousness of life.
