The Trump administration in the United States claimed that pregnant women taking acetaminophen, the active ingredient in pain relievers and fever reducers, may increase the risk of autism in their children. In response, the World Health Organization WHO stated that there are research findings indicating no such association, and emphasized that considerable caution is necessary when drawing conclusions about causality.
アメリカのトランプ政権は22日、鎮痛解熱剤の有効成分アセトアミノフェンを妊婦が服用すると子どもの自閉症のリスクを高めるおそれがあると主張して必要な場合を除いて服用を控えるよう求め、これに対して医療系の学会などが相次いで反対の声明を出しています。
On the 22nd, the Trump administration in the United States claimed that pregnant women taking acetaminophen, the active ingredient in pain relievers and fever reducers, may increase the risk of autism in their children, and called for people to refrain from taking it except when necessary. In response, various medical societies and organizations have issued statements opposing this claim.
こうした中、WHOの報道官は23日の会見でアセトアミノフェンと子どもの自閉症との関係について「関連を示唆する研究はいくつかあったが一貫した証拠は認められず、その後に行われた複数の研究では関連性は確認されていない」と指摘しました。
In this context, a WHO spokesperson pointed out at a press conference on the 23rd that although there have been some studies suggesting a link between acetaminophen and autism in children, consistent evidence has not been found, and several subsequent studies have not confirmed any association.
そのうえで「もしアセトアミノフェンと自閉症との関連性が強いのならば、複数の研究で一貫しておなじ結果が出ていただろう」と述べ、因果関係を結論づける際には相当な注意が必要だと訴えました。
On top of that, he stated, If there were a strong association between acetaminophen and autism, multiple studies would have consistently shown the same results, emphasizing that considerable caution is needed when drawing conclusions about causality.
また報道官は「各国のすべての保健機関が科学が示す結果に誠実に向き合うことを強く願っている」と述べました。
The spokesperson also stated, We sincerely hope that all health organizations in every country will face the results shown by science with integrity.
