逮捕されたのは和歌山県紀の川市に住む父親で建設業の平晴流容疑者（26）と母親で無職の平菜々美容疑者（26）です。
The people arrested are Haruru Taira 26, a construction worker and father living in Kinokawa City, Wakayama Prefecture, and his wife Nanami Taira 26, who is unemployed.
警察によりますと2人は、去年秋ごろからことし7月上旬にかけて当時住んでいた和歌山市内の自宅アパートで長女の流菜ちゃん（2歳）に暴行を加えたうえ、必要な治療を受けさせずに死亡させたとして保護責任者遺棄致死の疑いが持たれています。
According to the police, the two are suspected of causing the death of their eldest daughter, Runa-chan 2 years old, by assaulting her at their apartment in Wakayama City, where they lived from around last autumn to early July this year, and failing to provide her with necessary medical treatment.
ことし7月、母親から「子どもが熱中症で息をしていない」という119番通報があり、流菜ちゃんは病院に搬送されましたが、死亡しました。
In July of this year, there was a 119 emergency call from the mother saying, My child isnt breathing due to heatstroke. Runa-chan was transported to the hospital, but she passed away.
病院から連絡を受けた警察が遺体を詳しく調べたところ、死因は全身打撲によるものだと分かり、両親から事情を聴くなど捜査を進めていました。
The police, who were contacted by the hospital, conducted a detailed examination of the body and determined that the cause of death was multiple contusions over the entire body. They continued their investigation by questioning the parents and other related parties.
調べに対し2人は「間違いありません」と容疑を認めているということです。
According to the investigation, the two have admitted to the charges, saying, Theres no mistake.
流菜ちゃんの体重はおよそ6キロと2歳児の平均の半分ほどで、警察は詳しいいきさつを調べています。
Runa-chan weighs about 6 kilograms, which is roughly half the average weight of a two-year-old, and the police are investigating the details of the circumstances.
