天皇皇后両陛下は

滋賀県を
訪問し、
国民スポーツ大会の
開会式に
出席されました。
Their Majesties the Emperor and Empress visited Shiga Prefecture on the 28th and attended the opening ceremony of the National Sports Festival.
28日昼すぎに新幹線の臨時専用列車で滋賀県を訪れた両陛下は、開会式会場の彦根市の総合スポーツ公園陸上競技場に入り、会場からの拍手に笑顔で応えられました。
On the afternoon of the 28th, Their Majesties visited Shiga Prefecture on a special chartered Shinkansen train, entered the general sports park athletics stadium in Hikone City, the venue for the opening ceremony, and responded with smiles to the applause from the audience.
全国47都道府県の選手団、合わせておよそ2500人が順番に入場すると、両陛下は拍子を送られていました。
When the teams from all 47 prefectures of Japan, totaling about 2,500 people, entered in turn, Their Majesties applauded them.
天皇陛下は「日本一の湖である琵琶湖があり、交通の要衝として人と人とが結び付き歴史と文化が根付いたこの滋賀の地において、選手の皆さんが日頃の練習や努力の成果を十分に発揮されるとともに、お互いの友情を育み、地元滋賀県の皆さんとの交流を深められることを願っています」などとおことばを述べられました。
His Majesty the Emperor said, “I hope that here in Shiga, which is home to Lake Biwa, Japan’s largest lake, and where people have come together as a key transportation hub, allowing history and culture to take root, all the athletes will be able to fully demonstrate the results of their daily practice and efforts, foster mutual friendships, and deepen exchanges with the people of Shiga Prefecture,” among other remarks.
このあとオリンピックの聖火にあたる炬火（きょか）が炬火台にともされ、滋賀県出身のダンサーや地元の子どもたちなど、およそ1300人によるダンスパフォーマンスが披露されました。
After this, the torch, which is equivalent to the Olympic flame, was lit on the cauldron. A dance performance featuring about 1,300 people, including dancers from Shiga Prefecture and local children, was presented.
ダンサーや子どもたちが会場を訪れた人たちと一緒に青いタオルを胸の前で広げると、会場全体がびわ湖の青色に彩られ、パフォーマンスを鑑賞していた両陛下も笑顔で青いタオルを掲げられていました。
When the dancers and children spread blue towels in front of their chests together with the visitors, the entire venue was colored in the blue of Lake Biwa, and even Their Majesties, who were watching the performance, smiled and held up blue towels.
両陛下は29日午前、大津市のアリーナでバドミントンの団体戦をご覧になります。
Their Majesties will watch the badminton team competition at the arena in Otsu City on the morning of the 29th.
