American high school students, a competition to answer quizzes about Japan
In America, there was a quiz competition for high school students studying Japanese.
About 160 students from 24 high schools answered questions about Japanese culture and history.
The high school student answered in excellent Japanese, ”If you have a question, you should ask your teacher as soon as possible, like ’listening is a temporary shame, not asking is a lifelong shame.’”
According to an organization that investigates international students, about 9,000 Americans went to Japan to study in 2018.
However, due to the problem of the new coronavirus, the number has decreased, and in 2020 there were about 100 people.
A 17-year-old high school student said, ”In the future, I want to work translating Japanese culture.”
