Russia announces resumption of talks over New START

The Russian side has announced that it will resume suspended talks on the ”New START” treaty between the United States and Russia, which limits the number of deployed nuclear weapons.
According to state-run Russian news agency, Russia’s Deputy Foreign Minister Ryabkov announced on the 11th that the New START = New Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty bilateral consultation committee will be held in Cairo, Egypt between late November and early December.
The meeting will last for about a week and will discuss the resumption of inspections of nuclear facilities based on the treaty.
Russia had stopped accepting inspections due to US sanctions against Russia over its invasion of Ukraine in August.
New START is the only remaining nuclear disarmament treaty between the United States and Russia, and they agreed to extend it for five years in January last year.
