Hokkaido’s ”Tokachi Kawanishi Nagaimo” becomes food for astronauts
JAXA chooses food for astronauts from among food ideas provided by Japanese companies.
We have selected 5 new dishes using potatoes called ``Tokachi Kawanishi Nagaimo’’ grown in the Tokachi region of Hokkaido.
It will be used for meals on the International Space Station.
The five dishes include ``Tororo’’ (simmered sweet potato), a dish boiled with tomatoes, and an omelet.
It uses a technique to dry food, then add water or hot water to soften it before eating.
And it has passed strict standards such as preventing the growth of bacteria.
The person making the potatoes said, ``I’m very happy to think that these potatoes will be useful in space.’’
