The Bank of England has unveiled new banknotes featuring a portrait of King Charles.
The new pound banknotes are being redecorated in response to the change of monarch from Queen Elizabeth to King Charles.
The overall design remains unchanged, and only the portion of the portrait will be changed to that of the king.
Coins with the King’s portrait engraved on them have already been in circulation since the beginning of this month, but the new banknotes will be released in a year and a half in 2024.
Banknotes with Queen Elizabeth’s portrait, which is currently being used, can continue to be used in the future.
