神奈川県大井町では、街の名物を使った一風変わったクリスマスイルミネーションが人々の目を楽しませています。　
In Oimachi, Kanagawa Prefecture, people enjoy unique Christmas light displays using local specialties.
大井町のJR御殿場線上大井駅では、町の名物の「ひょうたん」を使ったクリスマスイルミネーションが駅の構内に飾られています。　
At Kami-Oi Station on the JR Gotemba Line in Oimachi, the town's famous gourd Christmas lights are displayed inside the station.
50年以上前の1971年に上大井駅で夏の西日を避けるための対策としてひょうたんが植えられたことがきっかけで、
More than 50 years ago, in 1971, gourds were planted at Kami-Oi Station as a way to avoid the summer afternoon sun,
この駅は「ひょうたん駅」として親しまれ、今ではひょうたんは大井町の名物やシンボルになっています。　
this station is affectionately known as “Hyotan Station” and today the gourd has become a specialty and symbol of Oimachi.
駅の構内には様々な柄が彫られた「ひょうたんランプ」に明かりがともされ、クリスマスムードを演出しています。　
Inside the station, carved gourds with various patterns are lit, creating a Christmas atmosphere.
ひょうたんランプは町民や企画した女子大学生の空間アーティストによる手作りのもので、約150個が飾られているということです。　
About 150 gourd lamps were handmade by townspeople and the female university student space artist who planned the project.
この「ひょうたんランプイルミネーション」は25日まで開かれています。
This "Gourd Lighting" program is open until the 25th.
