A living national treasure Ryukyu classical musician in tokyo calls for a fundraiser for the fire at Shuri Castle.
It has been two weeks, 14 days, since the fire occurred at Shuri Castle.
Recognized as a so-called “living national treasure” by important intangible cultural property holders, Ryukyu classical musician Kazuo Nakamura has called for a fundraiser within Tokyo towards rebuilding.
Last month on the 31st, a great fire set Shiru castle a blazed in Naha, and the movement for support towards rebuilding is spreading.
The recognized “living national treasure” Ryukyu classical musician Mr. Kazuo Nakamura (age 73) on November 13th called for a fundraiser in Toshima-ku, Tokyo.
Originally from Kimeshima, Mr. Nakamura from his twenties professionally started practicing classical songs and the Sanshin (traditional Okinawan three-stringed instrument). Since then, he has been energetically on stage together with a succession of successors.
On the 13th, the gathering of celebration fir receiving acknowledgment was open, and around 40 people originally from Okinawa who are living in Tokyo gathered.
At the gathering, Mr. Nakamura personally composed a song and sang of the scenery seen from Shuri Castle. He performed “Shiru Castle eulogy” while playing the Sanshin.
Afterwards, Mr. Nakamura carried a fundraising box and called for donations for the reconstruction of Shiru Castle.
“There is the thought of intolerance.
We can rebuild if we get the cooperation of everyone,” Mr. Nakamura said.
People who have already donated money had said, “It’s sad because we were happy when it was reconstructed after the second world war.
Especially when people have been around during that reconstruction.”
Next month on the 9th, Mr. Nakamura will be doing a charity public performance towards the reconstruction in Kenurazoe, Okinawa and will contribute the donations to Okinawa.
