The National Police Agency has decided to review the uniforms of female police officers and abolish the skirt option, leaving only trousers among the current two options of skirts and trousers.

Due to the expansion of the duties of female police officers, skirts have become impractical in the field and are no longer worn, and about 50 years after being specified in the police uniform regulations, they are set to be excluded.

The design, color, and material of police uniforms are meticulously regulated to ensure they are instantly recognizable as police officers. Currently, female police officers wear a jacket and dress shirt on top, with either pants or a skirt on the bottom. It is said that local police departments decide whether to wear pants or a skirt based on personal preference and other factors.

<br><br>With an increase in female police officers working in the field, such as during questioning and enforcement activities, there have been voices saying that skirts are difficult to move in. As a result, police in 26 prefectures have already stopped issuing skirts. However, the National Police Agency has now decided to abolish skirts nationwide in order to standardize the uniform style.

In addition, to cope with the severe summer heat, a new polo shirt type uniform made of quick-drying polyester material will be introduced for summer uniforms, which were previously only dress shirts.

<br>Furthermore, the hat commonly worn and referred to as the activity cap is designed with mesh material at the top to release heat, and it is said that it can be removed inside police boxes and residential stations.

<br><br>The new rule will be enforced from the 1st of next month, and the polo shirt type uniform will be used as a model project by the Saitama Prefectural Police starting in May.
