In July 2018, Dimeo, then 20 years old, took a nap while driving on a highway in New Jersey.
The car collided with a curve and rolled over, burning
Dimeo was rescued from the car by a passerby, but suffered severe burns to about 80% of his body.
In the past, there were only two surgeries that attempted simultaneous transplantation of the face and both hands, both of which were unsuccessful.
For the 23-hour surgery, 80 people from 6 surgical teams joined and used 2 operating rooms.
