In Winter, in Japan, the star called Betelgeuse is easily visible in the constellation Orion.

According to the (Japanese) National Observatory, the light from Betelgeuse has begun rapidly darkening since roughly last Fall.
As of now, the light is less than half its normal brightness, at its darkest in the last 50 years.

Because Betelgeuse has a variable light, some specialists say this is a repeat occurrence.
But other specialists think this is probably a state preceding a large explosion.
