3 elderly drivers were arrested for driving unregistered taxis ’for living costs due to low pension’.
The three elderly drivers were arrested for taking customers in their personal cars in the Ginza district of Tokyo. This is known as being an unregistered taxi.
They gave a statement explaining ”we did it you earn living costs due to the low pension.”
The drivers were all older than 75.
According to the metropolitan police they have had suspicions that these have been working as unregistered taxis near taxi stands in Ginza from January to September of this year.
”They’re cheaper than taxis” said employees returning to work, negotiating the price, compared to registered taxis they can be 10 to 40 percent cheaper to get to your destination.
In investigating these three their guilt was confronted in their statements regarding earning a living to supplement their pension.
As for elderly drivers operating as unregistered drivers at Ginza taxi stands, the police are going to strengthen controls.
