In northern Iraq, which has been hit by extreme drought, an ancient city from 3400 years ago emerged from the bottom of a dam where the water level dropped sharply.
古代遺跡はクルドとドイツの考古学チームが今年１月から２月にかけ、クルディスタン地域を流れるチグリス川沿いのモスルダムで発掘しました
The ancient ruins were excavated by Kurdish and German archaeological teams at the Mosul Dam along the Tigris River in the Kurdistan region from January to February this year.
The project was carried out in collaboration with local archaeological authorities to preserve cultural heritage for posterity.

The archaeological site of Chemne, where the excavation was carried out, is believed to have been the main city of the ”Kingdom of Mitanni”, which flourished between 1550 and 1350 BC during the Bronze Age.
According to researchers at the University of Freiburg, Germany, the Kingdom of Mitanni dominated the region from the Mediterranean coast to northern Iraq at that time.
