Inmate Fukusako is from Kanagawa Prefecture.
In 1994, he was charged with second-degree murder for shooting and killing fortune teller Komehime Fujita (then 56 years old) and her son Goro (also 21 years old) in Honolulu, and was sentenced to life in prison the following year.
Prisoner Fukusako returned to Japan immediately after the incident, but this was the first case in which a Japanese person was extradited to the U.S. on murder charges based on the Japan-U.S. Extradition Treaty.
