The Kanto Festival of Akita City has started
秋田市で江戸時代から続く有名な「竿燈まつり」が3日に始まりました
The long time traditional festival of the Edo period, The Kantou Maturi, started on the third of August this month.
It is a summer festival that represents a bountiful rice harvest this year because bamboo poles with many paper lanterns attached resemble full-grown rice plants.
This festival is very important for the culture of the country but was put to a stop because or the Corona virus problem for the past two years.
竿燈は長さ12m、重さ50kgもあります
The length of the Kantou are 12m and the weight is 50kg.
At the ”Myogi Taikai” which shows the technique and beauty of raising the Kanto, people called ”sashite” put the Kanto on their foreheads, shoulders, and hips skillfully.
会場にはたくさんの人が集まりました
There were many people at the event.
A man from Yokohama said, ”It was cool that a heavy Kantou was lifted so easily.”
”It was good that I was able to come and see it.” He said.
