Establishing a policy of administrative guidance on LINE of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications
The Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications will give administrative guidance to LINE, saying that the management system and explanations to users were not sufficient due to the problem that the communication application LINE made the user’s personal information accessible from China etc.
 This problem was caused by the communication app LINE making the user’s personal information accessible from China or managing it in South Korea.
According to people familiar with the matter, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications received a report from the company on the 19th of this month and investigated it, and found no infringement or leakage regarding the confidentiality of communications.
However, because the internal management system and explanations to users were not sufficient, we have decided to establish a policy of providing administrative guidance to LINE based on the Telecommunications Business Law and request that we report recurrence prevention measures.
Regarding LINE, on the 23rd of this month, the government’s Personal Information Protection Commission is also giving administrative guidance, saying that the supervision system was insufficient.
