The Consumer Affairs Agency issued a cease and desist order to Kirin Beverage, the seller of the mixed juice, ordering it to prevent the recurrence of such an incident, claiming that the company’s labeling of the product as if it contained mostly melon juice, when it contained only 2% melon juice, was in violation of the Act against Unjustifiable Premiums and Misleading Representations.

The order was received by Kirin Beverage, a major beverage manufacturer in Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo.

消費しょうひ者しゃ庁ちょうによりますと「キリンビバレッジ」は、おととしの6月つきからことし4月つきまで、ミックスジュースの「トロピカーナ 100％まるごと果実かじつ感かんメロンテイスト」を販売はんばいする際さい、パッケージ全体ぜんたいにメロンのイラストを配置はいちし、「100％メロンテイスト」などと表示ひょうじしていたということです

According to the Consumer Affairs Agency, Kirin Beverage sold ”Tropicana 100% Whole Fruit Melon Taste” mixed juice from June 2008 to April 2009, with an illustration of a melon placed on the entire package and labeled ”100% Melon Taste.

これについて、消費しょうひ者しゃ庁ちょうが調査ちょうさした結果けっか、実際じっさいは、原料げんりょうの大だい部分ぶぶんをブドウやリンゴ、それにバナナの果汁かじゅうが占しめ、メロンの果汁かじゅうは、全体ぜんたいの2％ほどしか使つかわれていなかったということです

The Consumer Affairs Agency investigated this and found that grape, apple, and banana juice actually made up the majority of the ingredients, with melon juice making up only about 2% of the total.
