東京・上野動物園で、日本で最初に開業したモノレールに代わり、ジェットコースターと同じ構造を利用した乗り物が園内を走行することとなりました

上野動物園の「東京都懸垂電車上野懸垂線」は昭和32年に日本で最初に開業したモノレールで、老朽化のために5年前から運行を休止し、今後、撤去されます

都は、代わりとなる新しい乗り物の公募を行い、選定した結果、ジェットコースターと同じ、レールを上下と横の3方向から車輪で押さえる構造の乗り物とすることを決めました

都によりますと、上り勾配では、電力を利用してモーターが稼働しますが、下り勾配の場所によっては、環境に配慮して電力を使わず、重力で走行する仕組みになっているということです
