Japan Builds Ammonia-Fueled Tanker to Reduce CO2 Emission
Shipping companies are planning to cut down their containers’ carbon dioxide emissions in global ocean to zero by 2050, without using heavy oil as fuel.
NYK Line together with ship engine companies are building ammonia-fueled container ships instead.
The use of ammonia fuel will not accelerate global warming as it is mixed together with plant-based biofuel.

NYK Line and other companies stated that they are planning to start using those ships by 2026.
That way, ammonia can be shipped as an export goods and used as ship fuel at the same time.
To support this effort, Japanese government allocated 84 trillion Japanese yen.
