According to the university’s Instagram post, the dress was designed by actress Mercedes McCambridge, who was brought to the university at the time to be a source of ”hope, strength, and courage,” and to Gilbert Hart, then dean of the drama course. It was said to have been a gift to Father Key, and for many years it was rumored that it was kept in the Hartkey Building, which was named after him, but no one knew its whereabouts.
