気象庁きしょうちょうは、台風たいふうになる可能性かのうせいが高たかい熱帯低気圧ねったいていきあつについて、今いままでは間違まちがいがないように１日にち先さきの予報よほうしか出だしていませんでした

Until recently, The Japanese Meteorological Agency (JMA) only issued their forecast for when a tropical cyclone has a high chance of turning into a typhoon 1 day in advance in order to avoid mistakes.

しかし、去年きょねん大おおきな被害ひがいがあった台風たいふう１５号ごうのとき、熱帯低気圧ねったいていきあつから台風たいふうに変かわったのは、日本にっぽんに来くる３日みっか前まえでした

However, last year, the 15th typhoon that left exasperating damage had changed from a cyclone to typhoon 3 days before it reached Japan.

被害ひがいを少すくなくするための準備じゅんびの時間じかんが短みじかくて、「早はやく情報じょうほうを出だしてほしい」という意見いけんがありました

As there is limited time to prepare for the damage-control process, many expressed a need for ”sooner disclosure of information”.

このため気象庁きしょうちょうは、予報よほうの技術ぎじゅつを上あげて、台風たいふうになる前まえの熱帯低気圧ねったいていきあつの進すすみ方かたや強つよさの情報じょうほうを出だすことができるようにしました

Responding to such request, JMA updated their technology and was able to release information about when a tropical cyclone turned into a typhoon, its moving direction and the strength as well.

そして今月こんげつ９日ここのかから、熱帯低気圧ねったいていきあつの５日いつか先さきまでの予報よほうを出だすことにしました

Therefore, from the 9th of this month, information of the weather 5 days prior to a tropical cyclone was announced.

気象庁きしょうちょうは「熱帯低気圧ねったいていきあつの進すすみ方かたや強つよさを早はやく調しらべて、被害ひがいを少すくなくするための準備じゅんびに役やくに立たててほしいです」と言いっています

”We will quickly check the trajectory and the strength of the tropical cyclone because we want to give everyone useful data so that you can prepare for the typhoon and minimize potential damage,” said JMA.
