(Translation by Tagood Japanese) Nishiki Market, Kyoto. An experiment in which customers are asked to donate money to (help) tidy up rubbish.
京都にある錦市場には、大勢の人が観光に来ます
In Nishiki Market in Kyoto, crowds of people come to go sightseeing.
With there being around 130 food shops, some people enjoy walking around whilst eating.
However, it costs money to clean up the rubbish that the customers throw away.
The shop staff along with a travel company started an experiment as of the 10th (of February) asking customers to donate a part of the (cost of the) cleaning up money.
They use the QR code that is on the bin and they will then be asked to donate 100 yen once.
There are 8 bins.
去年も同じ実験をしましたが、集まったお金は1か月で1100円ぐらいでした
They also did the same experiment last year, though the money raised was (only) around 1100 yen per month.
That’s why this year they’ve drawn pictures of Maiko (traditional geisha apprentice) throwing away rubbish onto the bins, to make sure everyone can see them properly.
店の人は「錦市場をこれからも楽しんでもらうために、実験がうまくいくといいと思います」と話しています
”We hope the experiment goes well so that people can continue to enjoy Nishiki Market.” said the shop staff.
